Oh Calendula!

Calendula officinalis is a beautiful orange flower. This flower is also commonly known as English Marigold. Calendula is in the Asteraceae family of plants, along with Dandelion and sun flowers. Calendula has many herbal actions including: Anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and regenerative. So let me break these down for you! Anti-bacterial properties mean this plant can fight and repel bacteria. Anti-inflammatory means it may reduce inflammation. The meaning of antioxidant is that it helps reduce the production of free radicals in the body, you know those pesky aging cells. Calendula having regenerative properties means it helps repair damaged cells and tissues. Calendula officinalis has been used for a variety of skin conditions, minor wounds, and varicose veins. It is also known to have a mild sedative effect. This flower is dried then added to oil, like safflower oil, or sunflower oil. Then after a couple months the mixture is strained of the plant mesh and the oil is preserved. This is known as herbal oil. The oil now carries the properties of the flowers. The herbal oil can be added to lotions and salves for skin care among other things.


Now to talk energetics! This Calendula flower is orange, so that is a good indication for the sacral chakra! This is a very warming plant that helps us receive and utilize the fiery energy of the sun. Calendula is said to have powers of protection and beautifying. It is often used in weddings and rituals. This plant often brings an abundance of positivity into ones life.
